Flender gear units for marine and shipbuilding and single input/single output marine gearboxes are used in river boats and coastal vessels, but also in ocean-going vessels. Depending on the application, Flender gear units for single engine ships can be built with vertically, horizontally or diagonally offset shafts.
These gearboxes cover a power range from 1,000 to 30,000 kW with transmission ratios from 1.5 to about 12.1.
Flender gear units for single engine ships can optionally be supplied with or without built-in multiple disk clutch.
Using a PTO (Power Take Off), on-board electricity can be produced by a generator. Here, a variety of solutions is available to our customers. For example, the generators can be driven via a primary or secondary PTO. Special solutions such as PTI (Power Take In) or PTH (Power Take Home) are also possible, as are switchable or two-stage PTOs. To adjust the propeller speed in PTH operation, FLENDER provides a switchable PTO with two different transmission ratios.

The right gearbox for all Multi-Engine Ships
Here, different drive concepts can be implemented. Via clutches, the gearboxes can be driven in single- or twin-engine operation. Frequently, there are special requirements for low noise emission.
Flender gear units for multi engine ships are used for passenger ships, ferries, and supply ships and offered by FLENDER for power ratings of up to 50,000 kW per engine. Higher power ratings and special solutions are available on request.

(Two-gear) PTO, PTH
Suction hopper dredgers are used for the recovery of raw materials and for extension of water shipping lanes. Driven by their own propulsion system the dredger move to the extraction area where they start removing dredged material from the water bottom or waterway beds.
The material is pumped into the ship´s hold. The water that was separated from the dredged material is returned into the water. When it comes to discharge the dredged material is flushed out in the same way.
